Professional Headshots: 4/19/2014

4/22/2014

Justin Ho Photography and I had the pleasure of taking professional headshots for Wash U students who needed them for professional school/job/internship applications and for their Linkedin profiles. We offered our subject the choice of a black, white, or gray backdrop. Justin photographed people against the black and white backdrops and I photographed people against the gray backdrop.

The event ran pretty smoothly overall--efficient because it only took a few minutes per person to get an awesome headshot. I would admit/interview these guys if I saw their photos on their applications/resumes, wouldn't you ;)?

This event would not have been possible without some key supporters behind the scene. Justin and I would like to give special thanks to Thomas Wang and Francis Wu for helping run the event as well as International Pre-health Society and Minority Association of Premedical Students for sponsoring the event!

Do you need a professional headshot? Does your student group want to host a professional headshot session? Please don't hesitate to contact Justin or me for details!

Ghost Lights A Cappella Concert

"One national championship.
One insane coach.
Seven crazier Aca-Moms.
And one daughter to rule them all.

Curtain Call: Aca-Moms Unleashed

Tears, sass, passion, Beyonce, fear, trash talk, anger, love, cereal, cheek-pinching, neglect, tacos, and most important of all, a singing competition that will have you begging for more!"

This was the event description for the spring 2014 Ghost Lights A Cappella Concert. Creative, huh!? This group impressively used the context of an a cappella competition to transition between the Broadway/movie/TV soundtrack songs they performed. I had never seen anything like it! Even more impressively, the vocal quality and overall presentation of the group improved tremendously since its founding in spring of 2010. Make sure to check them out in their concert next fall! :)

Carnaval 2014

Samba, flamenco, salsa, Latin jazz, zapateado, tango, West African, bachata, hip hop, cha cha, and belly dance... Can you tell which photos are from which dances?

Also, here is a brief history on the origin of the name, Carnaval/Carnival, that I found interesting:

"Where did the word “carnival” come from?

Hundred and hundreds of years ago, the followers of the Catholic religion in Italy started the tradition of holding a wild costume festival right before the first day of Lent. Because Catholics are not supposed to eat meat during Lent, they called their festival, carnevale — which means “to put away the meat.” As time passed, carnivals in Italy became quite famous; and in fact the practice spread to France, Spain, and all the Catholic countries in Europe. Then as the French, Spanish, and Portuguese began to take control of the Americas and other parts of the world, they brought with them their tradition of celebrating carnival."

Don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions about the school (I think I have been here for long enough to be able to answer at least some of your questions haha), and I hope to see all of you on campus this fall! :)

WAsh U Hip Hop Union (WUHHU) Showcase

If the familiar mahogany (?) wooden floor and august pillars had not reminded me that I was at the Danforth University Center at Wash U, I would have thought that I was at a performance arts school because of the astounding talent I saw at the WUHHU showcase. It was simply amazing to see my fellow friends and peers dance to songs like Eminem's Berzerk, Beyonce's Partition, Exo's Growl, Chris Brown's Love More etc with such incredible energy and synchrony.  I was also surprised to see a guest performer, GLITCH ("God loves Individuals that Create Hope"), share his robotic moves with us. Here are some highlights from a stunning show!
